# About slimdroid slimdroid is a free browser tool that reads an Android phone over USB and shows what every app costs, what it can access and whether it is safe to switch off. It lives at slimdroid.com and was formerly called debloat. This page says how it works and where it stops. ## How it decides what is safe Each package is looked up in a built-in knowledge base of 125 named packages and 29 pattern families. Every entry has a tier (critical, core, judgement call, bloat) and a plain reason. Anything it does not recognise is labelled unknown instead of guessed. [The tiers are explained here](https://slimdroid.com/guides/is-it-safe-to-disable-system-apps). ## What it measures - Battery drain per app in mAh per hour, plus memory, CPU and sensor wake-ups. - Which apps used the camera, microphone and location, and how long ago. - Which apps hold accessibility, device-admin, notification, overlay, install-unknown, all-files, usage-access or VPN rights. - Where each app was installed from, and which apps have not been opened in months. - What changed between two scans: new packages, re-enabled packages and cost that moved. ## What it does not do - It does not need or use root, and it does not touch the bootloader or firmware. - It does not capture network traffic, so it cannot show what an app sends. - It does not scan for malware signatures. It shows who holds powerful access; it is not an antivirus. - It cannot read a work profile over ADB, and it works on Android phones only. - When a phone does not expose a reading, the tool shows a dash instead of inventing a number. ## Every change can be undone Disable and uninstall apply to your user only, the APK stays on the phone, each command is journalled and the state is read back from the phone to confirm it. A factory reset restores everything. See the [privacy page](https://slimdroid.com/privacy). ## Free and independent There are no ads, trackers or paid tier. Hosting is paid by optional [donations](https://slimdroid.com/donate).
