# Samsung bloatware: what is safe to disable on a Galaxy phone On a Samsung Galaxy phone it is usually safe to disable the optional extras: the Bixby voice assistant, Game Launcher and Game Booster, AR Emoji, recommendation and upsell services, Facebook preinstalls and carrier apps. Keep Samsung Account, the keyboard, One UI Home, the Clock and Knox. ## Safe to disable for most people These are the packages slimdroid's knowledge base files as optional on Samsung phones. Disable a few at a time and use the phone for a day before the next batch. | Package | What it is | What stops | | --- | --- | --- | | `com.samsung.android.bixby.agent` | Bixby voice assistant core | Bixby. Background drain usually drops. | | `com.samsung.android.voicewakeup` | "Hey, Galaxy" always-listening wake word | The wake word. It can save battery. | | `com.samsung.android.game.gametools` | Game Booster and game plug-ins | Game overlays and boosting. | | `com.samsung.android.game.gamehome` | Game Home storefront | The games storefront. | | `com.samsung.android.aremoji` | AR Emoji studio | 3D emoji creation. | | `com.samsung.android.mateagent` | Companion agent that makes suggestions | Suggestions and upsell prompts. | | `com.samsung.android.cockatoo` | Recommendation engine core | Tips and promotions. | | `com.samsung.android.weather` | Samsung Weather and its widget sync | The Samsung weather widget. Keep it if you use it. | | `com.samsung.sami` | Samsung analytics and instrumentation | A background analytics stream. | | `com.facebook.services` | Shared Facebook services preinstall | Nothing, if you use no Facebook-family app. | ## Judgement calls: check what you use first - **Samsung Pass** (`com.samsung.android.samsungpass`): biometric autofill stops. - **Find My Mobile** (`com.samsung.android.fmm`): you lose Samsung's way to locate the phone. - **Samsung Cloud** (`com.samsung.android.scloud`): settings and notes sync and backups stop. - **Device Care** (`com.samsung.android.lool`): automatic optimisation and cleanup stop. - **Samsung Wallet and Pay**: tap-to-pay stops. Disable only if you pay another way. - **Always On Display** services: disabling saves battery and the display disappears. ## Keep these - **Samsung Account** (`com.samsung.android.samsungaccount`) and its auth framework: Find My, cloud and update sign-in break without them. - **Keyboard and One UI Home:** disabling either leaves you unable to type or with no home screen. - **Clock:** alarms stop firing. - **Knox, biometrics and Secure Folder:** fingerprint and face unlock and work profiles break. - **Package installer and the telephony stack:** installs, calls and SMS break. ## How to do it 1. [Turn on USB debugging](https://slimdroid.com/guides/enable-usb-debugging). Switch Samsung's **Auto Blocker** off while you work; [here is why](https://slimdroid.com/guides/samsung-auto-blocker-usb-debugging). 2. Open the [slimdroid tool](https://slimdroid.com/app) in Chrome or Edge and connect the phone. 3. Filter by tier **bloat**, read the reason for each row and disable the Bixby and Game families first. 4. Restart, use the phone for a day, then continue. Restore anything that broke from the journal. ## After a One UI update A major update can switch some disabled apps back on. Scan again afterwards, or compare a scan from before and after the update to see exactly what changed. ### Does disabling Samsung apps trip Knox or void the warranty? Disabling or uninstalling an app for your user does not touch the bootloader or firmware, so the Knox warranty flag is not tripped. Samsung may still decline to troubleshoot a phone with system apps removed, so check your terms. ### Can I get a disabled Samsung app back? Yes. Restore it from the slimdroid journal or run `adb shell pm enable `. For an app removed for your user, run `adb shell cmd package install-existing `. ### Which Samsung apps drain the most battery? Measure rather than guess: the slimdroid battery screen shows drain per app in mAh per hour on your own phone. Voice wake-up, always-on services and widgets that sync in the background are the usual suspects. ## Related guides - [How to debloat an Android phone without root](https://slimdroid.com/guides/debloat-android-without-root) - [Is it safe to disable system apps on Android?](https://slimdroid.com/guides/is-it-safe-to-disable-system-apps) - [Samsung Auto Blocker blocks USB debugging: how to fix it](https://slimdroid.com/guides/samsung-auto-blocker-usb-debugging)
