# Debloat your Android phone from your browser slimdroid shows what every app on your phone really costs in battery, memory and background activity, which apps can use your camera, microphone and location, and what each one does. Then it lets you switch off the ones you do not need. No root, no install, and nothing leaves your computer. > You need a computer with Chrome or Edge, a USB data cable and a phone with USB debugging switched on. No phone to hand? The recorded demo runs without one. ## Quick facts - **What it is:** A free, browser-based Android debloater and battery analyser that talks to the phone over WebUSB ADB. - **Cost:** Free, with no ads and no account. Supported by optional donations. - **Needs:** Chrome or Edge on a computer, a USB data cable and USB debugging switched on. - **Root:** Not required. - **Privacy:** Scans stay in your browser. The tool makes no network requests while you work. - **Reversible:** Disabled and uninstalled apps can be restored. Every action is journalled and read back from the phone. - **Knowledge base:** 125 named packages plus 29 pattern families. Anything it does not recognise is labelled unknown, not guessed. ## What you get - **See what every app costs**: Battery in mAh per hour, memory, CPU and sensor wake-ups per package, not just a list of names. - **A verdict you can read**: Each package is critical, core, a judgement call, bloat or your own app, with a plain reason and what breaks if you disable it. - **A privacy check**: See which apps used the camera, microphone and location and how long ago, and which hold accessibility, device-admin or install-unknown access. - **Changes you can undo**: Disable or uninstall for your user only. The APK stays on the phone, an undo journal records each command, and an optional archive keeps a copy. - **See what changed**: Compare two scans to find what an update, a trip or a new app changed. - **Private by design**: No account, no tracking. Scans, marks and journals are stored in your browser and nowhere else. ## How it works 1. [Turn on USB debugging](https://slimdroid.com/guides/enable-usb-debugging) on the phone. 2. Plug it in, press **Connect phone** in Chrome or Edge, pick the phone and tap **Allow**. 3. Read the scan and mark what to switch off. Start with packages marked bloat. 4. Switch USB debugging off when you are done. ## Find your problem - [My phone is slow](https://slimdroid.com/guides/fix-slow-android-phone): Measure storage, memory and background apps before changing anything. - [Slow after an update](https://slimdroid.com/guides/android-slow-after-update): What happens in the first days after an update and how to compare scans. - [The battery drains overnight](https://slimdroid.com/guides/android-battery-drain-apps): Find the apps that keep the phone awake. - [Which apps use my camera, mic and location?](https://slimdroid.com/guides/check-which-android-apps-use-camera-microphone-location): Check recent use and permissions, then run a full per-app check. - [Is my phone being tracked or spied on?](https://slimdroid.com/guides/is-my-android-phone-being-tracked-or-spied-on): Four checks for stalkerware and spyware, and what to do safely. - [Which apps are watching me?](https://slimdroid.com/guides/android-privacy-telemetry-apps): A five-minute privacy audit for preinstalled and background apps. - [Samsung bloatware](https://slimdroid.com/guides/samsung-bloatware-what-to-disable): What is safe to disable on a Galaxy phone, and what to keep. - [Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO bloatware and ads](https://slimdroid.com/guides/xiaomi-redmi-poco-bloatware-ads): Cut preinstalled apps and ad prompts on MIUI and HyperOS. - [Remove bloatware without root](https://slimdroid.com/guides/debloat-android-without-root): Disable or uninstall preinstalled apps safely, and undo it. ## Free, and kept free by donations slimdroid has no ads, no trackers and no paid tier. The usual causes are low free storage, too many background apps and preinstalled software that keeps running. slimdroid measures memory, CPU and battery per app so you can switch off what is costing you. It cannot fix failing hardware or a nearly full phone; [Android phone slow? Find what is slowing it down](https://slimdroid.com/guides/fix-slow-android-phone) covers the quick fixes first. ### Can slimdroid check my Android phone for privacy problems? Yes. Its privacy screen shows which apps used the camera, microphone and location and how long ago, and lists apps with accessibility, device-admin, notification, overlay, install-unknown, all-files, usage-access and VPN rights, plus apps installed outside a store. It does not capture network traffic or scan for malware signatures. See [how to check which apps use your camera, microphone and location](https://slimdroid.com/guides/check-which-android-apps-use-camera-microphone-location). ### Is slimdroid safe to use? It only changes what you choose. Disable and uninstall apply to your user and are reversible, and critical packages are protected unless you override. Removing the wrong app can still break a feature, so back up first, and switch USB debugging off when you are done. ### Do I need root? No. slimdroid uses the same ADB package-manager commands as a developer would, which work on an unrooted phone. ### Does slimdroid upload my data? No. The scan runs in your browser tab and results are stored in your browser. The tool makes no network requests while you work, which you can confirm in the browser's Network tab. See the [privacy page](https://slimdroid.com/privacy). ### Which browsers and phones work? Chrome and Edge on a computer, because they support WebUSB. Firefox and Safari do not. The phone needs USB debugging; the guide has steps for Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi and OnePlus. ### Will it void my warranty? slimdroid does not touch the bootloader or firmware, so it does not trip counters such as Samsung's Knox flag. A manufacturer may still decline to troubleshoot a phone with system apps removed, so check your warranty terms. ### How do I undo a change? Use Restore in the tool or the journal, or run `adb shell cmd package install-existing `. A factory reset restores everything. ### How is it different from Universal Android Debloater or Canta? It runs in the browser with nothing to install and shows what each app costs, but its built-in knowledge base is smaller. [Android debloat tools compared](https://slimdroid.com/guides/debloat-tools-compared) has the details. ### Why are some apps marked unknown? slimdroid only gives advice on packages it recognises. An unknown package is left alone rather than guessed at. ### Is it really free? Yes. There is no paid tier. Optional donations pay for hosting. ### Was slimdroid called debloat? Yes. The tool was first published as debloat and is now slimdroid. The guides still say "debloat" for the job of removing preinstalled apps, because that is what people search for.
